General Training Writing Task 1 Sample 130 - Advertisement in an English newspaper for a job

IELTS Letter Writing / GT Writing Task 1:

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You have seen an advertisement in an English newspaper for a job working in the City Museum shop during the holidays. You have decided to apply for the job.

Write a letter to the director of the Museum. In your letter:

  • Introduce yourself
  • Explain what experience and special skills you have
  • Explain why you are interested in the job

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to apply for the holiday job in your museum which you have advertised recently in the newspaper. I am a 35-year-old girl and interested in working in this position. I can speak English, Sinhala and Tamil quite well. I am a teacher in a government school. I teach history and I am very keen to have a holiday job in this summer vacation, specifically in your museum.

Last year, I worked in a large bookshop during my vacation and enjoyed it very much. I would like to meet people and serve my position with my dedication, commitment and hard work. I really love history, because I have a great passion in it and I teach this subject in the school. I enjoyed going to your museums and I spent a considerable amount of time there. I visited your museum with a team a few months ago and I am familiar with this museum that would give me the advantage to work there. I think you will be kind enough to consider me as a suitable candidate for this position.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and further discuss my joining in this position.

Your faithfully
