Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

People should read only those books that are about real events, real people, and established facts.

Use specific reasons and details to support your opinion.

Sample Essay 1:
With the evolution of technological advancement, people’s interest in reading has dramatically reduced in some developing countries over the last few years. Some people argue that books having people autobiography, real stories and proven facts are more influential and have greater advantages. Others claim that people should encourage reading books irrespective of its type and category. I believe that reading is an important constituent of people’s lives and help them to increase their knowledge and information about various aspects of the worlds.

There is no doubt that people’s observation and experiences in the form of books enable other people to draw their opinion on a particular thing, for instance, researchers are using established facts as a basis of their research to extract something new out of it as their finding. Furthermore, people can learn about various events of history that were important parts of their tradition and customs but are no longer practice in today’s world.

Nowadays, people are more opted towards others activities than reading. Therefore, we should make attempts to create a conducive learning environment and motivate people to read books of their own choice. Parents and teachers can play a pivotal role in realising the importance of reading among children. In today’s competitive environment, individuals should focus to gain maximum knowledge and information on different subjects by reading books that cater multiple ideas and topics.

To sum up, I would like to say that books have significant positive impact on people attitudes and behaviours. However, there is dire need to create perceptiveness about reading regardless of the type and subject of books. People should have freedom to select books based on their interest and liking.

Model Answer 2:
Some people think that fiction books have no use at all. They claim that people should read about real events that took place, real people, and established facts. I have to totally disagree with this statement. From my everyday experience and observation, I can stand that fiction, miracles and fairy tails are required in our life. For several reasons, which I will mention below, I believe that fiction books play an essential role in our life.

First of all, it is kind of difficult to imagine a six-year-old child reading about politics or history with the real facts that are not always pleasant. I think that children need miracles and Santa Claus because the real world is too complicated for them. They are too innocent and inexperienced to know the real facts and understand what is a real life about. In addition, I am sure that making a child read only non-fiction books can result in shock.

Second of all, following this statement about refusing from reading books about fiction events we also should refuse from festivals, parades, and celebration such holidays as Halloween because most of the characters there are fictional. Moreover, comic books will disappear as well as animated films and fiction movies. The disadvantage of non-fiction lies in the facts that nothing happens to excite the mind and spirit. From the other side, fiction provides a great slope for a mind to think creatively.

In conclusion, I think that people need miracles. We can not be satisfied with the only naked truth. Humankind must believe in something and this belief helps people break limits and make new inventions.

Nowadays, we spend a lot of time watching imaginary films. We start with animated cartoons, go through Star Wars and finish with Avatar. In fact, the imaginary events and characters from these films accompany us throughout our entire lives. That is why I totally disagree with the idea that it is only necessary for people to read non-fiction books.

I believe that reading fictional books -- such as fantasy and science fiction -- is meaningful, because it can satisfy people's interests, improve the ability to think creatively and aid in relaxation. One of the advantages of reading fictional books is that they can satisfy the interests of readers. It is especially true for young children, since their logical thinking ability may not be well-developed during this stage of childhood, while their sensibilities are active.

In fact, they may not be interested in books about political leaders, economic changes or social events. In addition, reading fictional books can also enhance the ability to think creatively. Some people are able to find role models in the prototypes of fictitious characters from their favorite fairy tales or cartoons. For example, when I was a young girl, I loved the story about the little mermaid and the prince. Once, I drew and painted an image of the little mermaid in my art class, which earned the teacher's praise. Stories such as this one have helped to stimulate creative thinking in many people, and have encouraged them to study art, music, design, etc. What's more, reading fictional books is a helpful way to relax.

No matter whether they are in school or at work, people must routinely deal with realistic events as well as with regular contact and interaction with others. They need a way to relieve stress and to temporarily forget about their troubles. Thus, books which have absolutely nothing to do with real life can bring fun and relief to many people.
