Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a regular commuter of your bus service- Maple Tree Transportation, and I travelled from Edmonton to Calgary on April 5th. Unfortunately, my new suitcase was completely damaged due to the carelessness of your bus staffs and I am writing to claim compensation for that and would request you to investigate the issue so that it does not happen to any other commuter.

With regards to the incident, I took a bus from the Edmonton city station at 2.00 pm and reached the Calgary bus bay at 8.00 pm on 5th April 2018. I checked in a suitcase made by American Tourister and it contained my personal belongings. I instructed the bus staff to handle it with care. Unfortunately, when I arrived at Calgary bus bay and noticed my suitcase, its bottom part was completely torn down. I am sure this happened because someone very forcefully pulled it in and out of the luggage box. On top of that, the left wheel of my suitcase was also broken into pieces. This happened because your bus staffs bungled my luggage.

Mishandling of passengers luggage is not acceptable. My brand new suitcase got vitiated due to inadequate management and disregard of your bus staff. Therefore, I request a quick action in this regard and ask for full payment for the damage caused to the suitcase. I am attaching the receipt of the suitcase which I purchased last month. Also, talk to the bus staffs so that they do not repeat that incident.

Awaiting your reply and expecting an immediate action from you.

Yours faithfully,

Andy Odesa

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Ethan Deen a regular commuter of your bus. Recently I took your bus to reach Boston and to my surprise, your staff's mishandling of my luggage caused a severe damage to it. I am writing to claim a compensation for the property damage while travelling on a bus of your company.

I travelled from Washington, D.C. to Boston on bus #301 on July 21, 2018. The bus left the Greyhound Station at 9.30 am. Before the trip, I handed over my luggage to the conductor, who helped me to place my suitcase in the luggage compartment, which was almost empty at that time. After I arrived at the Boston Bus Station, the person in charge opened the compartment and I noticed that my brand new Gucci suitcase was smashed under the pressure of the weight of several other luggage.

My suitcase was firm and very beautiful with its modern design. However, it obviously hasn’t been designed to resist such a weight on it. I am very depressed because I can no longer use this suitcase. Its handle was bent and two wheels out of 4 were detached.

Since the damage was caused by the careless actions of your employee, I would like to claim my compensation of $250, which was the original price of my suitcase. Please, deliver a cheque to the address, written above.

Faithfully yours,

Ethan Deen

Model Answer 3:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I travelled from London to Manchester on 20th July 2018 on your bus - M548, and unfortunately, my new suitcase was completely damaged due to the mishandling by a personnel on the bus. I'm writing to claim the compensation for the damage while using your service and hoping to hear from you soon regarding this.

The bus I took left London Central Bus Station at 2:00 pm on 20th July and I handed over my suitcase to a bus staff before taking my seat. It is a four-wheel suitcase made by TravelPro and it contained my personal belongings. When I arrived at the Manchester Bus Terminal, I got my suitcase back but to my surprise, its upper part was torn down and two of its wheels were broken. I immediately complained to the bus driver but he didn't take any action and advised me to write to you instead.

I purchased this suitcase only a week ago and the warranty does not cover such forceful physical damage. As your bus staff is responsible for the damage, I am entitled to a compensation. I am attaching the purchase invoice of my suitcase and pictures of the damaged suitcase with this letter.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding this soon.

Yours faithfully,

Milad Rahimi

Model Answer 4:

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am Sameed Qureshi, a loyal customer of your bus service, writing to bring your attention to a property damage while travelling by one of your buses from Hamburg to Frankfurt on 25th June 2018. I am hoping to receive a compensation for the damage and would expect you to issue a show cause letter to the person responsible.

Regarding the incidence, I took a bus (number BT5801) on 25th June 2018 and the bus left the Hamburg Central Bus Station at 7.30 am. Like most travellers, I submitted my suitcase to a bus staff who kept it in the luggage compartment. When the bus arrived at the Frankfurt terminal, I was shocked to discover that my suitcase was severely damaged. It was a maroon suitcase that my dad has given me as a present. Hence it has a sentimental value to me. It is an expensive suitcase made by Briggs & Riley company.

Since I have submitted the suitcase to one of your employees before embarking on this journey, I expect you to reimburse me the amount equivalent to the fair value of my suitcase. Please find the enclosed purchase receipt of the suitcase. I have already decided that if you fail to pay me for my loss within the next 14 days, I shall institute legal proceedings against your company in a small claims court.

I am anticipating immediate remedial action.

Yours faithfully,

Sameed Qureshi

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Anand Ch, a frequent traveller of your “XYZ Travels”. I am writing this letter to express my concern about a damaged suitcase during my recent journey on one of your buses.

I travelled on January 8th, 2018 from Atlanta to Dexton and my reservation number was 018BN on bus 128SW. While booking my ticket, I got a flat 50% off for check-in baggage and I paid upfront. During my departure from Atlanta, I handed over my brand new red colour Samsonite suitcase to the check-in counter. When I reached my destination, I found that the bag was completely damaged and seems unrepairable. Unfortunately, some of the items were lost too!

As I have paid for the insurance during my booking, I urge you to make a detailed inquiry about the lost items which includes some important documents and request you to make a full payment for my new suitcase.

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
Anand Ch

Dear Sir/Madam,

Unfortunately, I am writing this letter to express my displeasure about the transportation service provided by your company. I travelled from Bhatinda to Amritsar in the 6E-41 bus having the departure time of 6.10 a.m. from Bhatinda. My booking reference no. is 12421. As I lodged the bus, I contacted the attendant to submit my luggage. I handed him the baggage and he threw my suitcase into a storage deck in front me. I was a bit shocked by this but he assured it was safe and he did that all the time.

When we reached Amritsar, I received my suitcase but its handle was broken! When I complained the attendant about this, he said it was already damaged before I submitting to him. After some unnecessary arguments, I reached my house with a sad feeling. To my bad luck when I opened the bag I found that the screen of my laptop had cracked badly. I had many important official data into that and the laptop is not functioning at all!

I am requesting you to reprimand the concerned official and provide me with the proper compensations against my damaged laptop and suitcase. I will be looking forward to you positive response in this regards.

Enclosed: Service Invoice of laptop and suitcase repair.

Your ’s faithfully,
Karan Bansal

Please assess the letter and tell the band score.

Dear Mr Alavi,
The manager of the first line of Bus Company.

I’m Nima Mirabedini, one of your regular passengers. I travelled in your bus on 20th June from Tehran to Esfahan. I’m writing this complaint letter to express my dissatisfaction about your bus service in that journey.

As I mentioned before, I travelled by one of your blue big bus, number 1221354, and delivered my suitcase with other luggage. Unfortunately after a long distance when I arrived my destination, co-driver brought out my suitcase from behind of other luggage with force and when I objected to him, he did not listen to me and behaved very rudely in front of other passengers. Due to his unacceptable behaviour and lack of care, my necessary stuff and suitcase were damaged in your vehicle. I believe you should pay compensation to me and your unprofessional staff should be warned from your side not to behave like this in the future.

I supposed you understand my disappointment when I saw my handbag is destructed. I think this problem deserves your urgent pursuit and attention. I’m waiting to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Your faithfully
Nima Mirabedini
