You are going to study in a college in the UK next year. You would like to stay in the college Hall of Residence.

Write a letter to the college giving your accommodation requirements. You should outline what your room and food needs are and also ask what alternatives are available if they cannot provide what you want.

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own address.

Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir/Madam;

I am Johnny who will join your college next year and I am writing to you to reserve a dorm in advance because I prefer to stay in a college Hall of Residence.

According to the dorm introduction on the college website, I would like to choose the two-beds room on the third floor with air-conditioner and laundry machine if there is still any vacancy. If all of them are reserved, it is fine for me to get the three or four beds room as well, but the air-conditioner and laundry machine are indispensable as they are the foremost factors I would consider.

As I am a vegetarian, I would like to know if the college provides food for people like me.  If this kind of food is unavailable, would you tell me any restaurant near the college can provide? I will really appreciate if you can share that information with me.

Looking forward to your reply!

Yours sincerely
Johnny

Model Answer 2:

Sir,

I have just recently been awarded a place at your esteemed college and I now write with respect to my accommodation requirements for my first initial year.

As I will not know anyone at the College, I would like to spend my first year in a Hall of Residence so that I can meet people in this place. I would prefer the Hall to be a single-sex, female-only hall and with the full board so that I won't have to worry about cooking for myself. In addition,  require a vegetarian choice as I am vegetarian. If there are no halls offering the above then I would be satisfied in a hall with kitchens so I can cook. Additionally, I would not like to share my room and I would prefer en-suite facilities if you have halls offering this.

Thanking you for your assistance in advance, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Lee Harper.

Sample Answer 3:

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you to reserve my place in the hall of residence for next academic year.

I am Preeti Ghuraiya, from India. I have been accepted in MBA course for next academic year by your prestigious university. Hence, I would like to enquire and reserve my place in university's hall of residence.

I am looking for a single room with attached bathroom or even a studio apartment would be fine. Apart from bed and cupboards, the room should have a table and a chair, good ventilation and ample of natural light. Since I am a vegetarian, I would like to cook my own food, so accommodation with a fully functional kitchen would be mandatory.

If the above arrangement is not available in the hall of residence then I would not mind living with local families. However, I would prefer a house with an elderly couple without children as I don't want any disturbance with my studies.

Please let me know if you would like to have any additional information. Waiting to hear from you soon regarding the availability and further process.

Truly,
Preeti

Sample Answer 4:

Dear Sir,

I am pleased to inform you that, I have been granted admission in your college and would be joining your college in the next academic year. In this juncture, I would like to put forward my accommodation requirements during my period of study in your college.

Firstly I would like to know the feasibility of the college hostel its landmark area, its nearby areas and the transport facilities to reach the adjoining city. Apart from the above, I would like to know what type of accommodation is available in your college hostel, its price and the facilities provided.

As I am from a middle-class family member, I can accustom and can accommodate myself in a room on sharing basis. I would be pleased to have an individual room if possible or a conjoined room where I can share with other college mates, further I should like to inform you that if under conjoined accommodation I prefer to stay with my fellow country students if possible. Coming onto the food needs, I request you to let me know the available cuisines. As such being an Indian, I would prefer to have a dish prepared with rice and anything along with rice would make me satisfied.

The above-stated requirements are in priority and flexible to me. If there couldn’t be any match with my requirements, I am ready to opt for the available accommodation but will be pleased to know the available options in advance to accommodate myself in your college hostel.

Thanking you, waiting for your reply in this regard.

Yours faithfully,

Sample Answer 5:

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I recently got admission in your college and for that, I want an accommodation in your college Hall of Residence.

Firstly, I would like to have a single room with attached bathroom. It should be near to any laundry service available in your college. If such accommodation is not possible then I could go for a shared bedroom but with only one female student.

Secondly, coming to the food I would prefer vegetarian foods as I am a vegetarian. If it is inconvenient for your college kitchen then I would appreciate if I could get an access to the kitchen to cook my own food.

The above-stated requirements are my priority but if by any means they do not match with your facilities, I would prefer to know your available options in advance, so, I can make up my mind.

Please let me know if you would like to have additional information. Thanking you in advance. I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours sincerely,
Afzal.

Dear Sir,
I am a student of Dhaka University, Bangladesh. Last month I was being selected to get enroll myself in the course-" Technique to Data Collection" at your university. I am writing this letter about my accommodation and some other factors there.

As a commoner, I prefer to stay at Hall of Residence to avoid any inconvenience related to my accommodation there. I wish to stay with the group of students, as I can get some basic information there. Personally, I have to bear all of my expenses. So it is a matter of my tension. If possible, you can arrange food facility with accommodation. So far I know, food at a restaurant is very costly. Some of my friends there suggest me to stay with a family. They argue that it will reasonably cheap and also enhance my speaking capability to speak English. It is up to you, which option I should prefer. As you know the course is critical, I request you, if possible, arrange my accommodation with the same group of students. Then I will get some basic guidelines. Finally, I request you to provide a city guided map and any publication describing the lifestyles of the inhabitants there. Please let me know the cost mentioning the type of accommodation.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely yours,
Zahid
