IELTS Letter Writing / GT Writing Task 1:
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You have been working in a company for many years and have noticed that new employees often leave your company. Now write a letter to your higher authority and suggest the possible reasons for that and ways to retain them.
Write at least 150 words.
Sample Answer 1:
My name is John and I am working for your company for nearly 20 years. I am writing this to express my concerns in relation to the current scenario of low retention of staff in the company, especially with regard to younger and relatively new recruitees with less than two years of experience.
One of the main reason behind this high attrition rate is the lack of opportunities in terms of professional advancement which should be well taken care of in my opinion. A team of experts may think of different strategies towards this, which should bring out programs to enhance skills, providing different job titles and look into the promotional aspects.
Another important reason which was told to me by one of my close friends and colleagues, who has recently joined another company, is the dearth of open communication between the management and the workforce, which needs to be improved by providing them a platform to air their concerns and suggestions, and ensuring that these are well acted upon. Furthermore, the work-life balance of the employees may be observed closely for betterment.
In the end, I would like to suggest that appreciation of work on a regular basis can also work magic.
I look forward to a positive step in this direction to improve employee retention.
Thanks - Yours Faithfully,

Model Answer 2:
Dear Mr David,
I am working in one of your nearshore offices in Uruguay for half a decade now. I have been noticing the employees, especially the ones with less than 3 years of work experience are quitting the company more often. I am in touch with a few of them, who actually left recently.
The more common reason, I could hear from them is there is no adequate scope for learning with the projects here. They were expected to do the same monotonous work for a long period of time, which didn't add much to their growth curve. I suggest some Learning Management Systems, which would give you self-evaluation and which can be used to assess the employee's performance as well. I hope you would consider my recommendations, so that we may be able to retain the talented young professionals, who will add more value to the business and to our company. Also by doing this, we will not spend more money in recruiting and training new people most of the time.
