Many opine that engaging in enjoyable pursuits with young children is more effective in developing their skills and creativity compared to reading books to them. I firmly disagree with the notion. In this essay, I will present arguments to explain that reading books plays a crucial role in shaping a child's intellect and nurturing their creative potential that enjoyable activities alone can not ensure.

While pleasant activities have their advantages in creating a bond between parents and their children, reading plays a unique and indispensable role in shaping a child's intellect and fostering creativity. This is because, books open doors to worlds beyond a child's immediate environment, exposing them to diverse ideas, cultures, and perspectives. Research indicates that reading to children enhances their language skills, vocabulary, and comprehension, all of which are critical components of effective communication and cognitive development.

Moreover, reading books to children introduces them to complex characters and situations, stimulating their critical thinking and empathy. For example, reading fairy tales allows children to explore ethical dilemmas and moral dilemmas, fostering their ability to discern between right and wrong. Therefore, reading books is an indispensable part of a child's educational journey. Books also serve as a source of inspiration for young minds, allowing them to dream big and envision a brighter future. The imaginative world created through reading fuels their creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, equipping them to face challenges with innovative solutions.

In conclusion, doing enjoyable activities with offspring may have some benefits, but when it comes to fostering their creativity and developing important soft skills, reading books to them has no alternatives. Therefore, parents should always make time to read to their children to nurture their creative development.

Parents' involvement in fostering the creativity of their children is essential. Therefore, what sort of activities parents should do with their children is often debated. Some argue that fun activities alone have significant benefits over reading books to young children. I tend to agree with this opinion.

To begin with, fun activities capture children's interest, enhancing their focus and attention span more than reading books to them. For instance, engaging in playful educational games, like word puzzles, playing sports, or interactive storytelling, can stimulate a child's imagination and cognitive abilities as they actively participate in those activities while reading books is passive in nature for them. Moreover, physical activities like sports not only promote physical health but also instil teamwork and coordination skills among young children. A personal experience highlights this benefit, as I remember participating in team sports during my childhood, which helped develop my social skills and cooperation.

In addition, fun activities that encourage problem-solving, such as puzzles or art projects, can enhance a child's creativity and critical thinking abilities. Providing children with opportunities to explore and experiment can lead to innovative thinking and self-expression. When parents actively participate in those activities with their children, they tend to enjoy them more and become more interested in similar creative activities.

Finally, reading books was indeed an important activity before the emergence of the internet and computer technologies. During that time, listening to audiobooks, playing multiplayer puzzles and strategy games or getting ideas for activities online was not available. Therefore, reading books to them was highly encouraged. However, the rapid development of technology and the scope for many interactive and fun yet educational activities have changed the necessity of reading books to them as we can engage them in more interactive activities and help them learn better from those activities nowadays.

To conclude, it is essential to encourage children to explore various learning opportunities to nurture their full potential and creativity. Though in the past, reading books played a vital role in this landscape, they are no longer a mandatory activity as more interactive and engaging activities are available in the modern era that help them develop their skills better.
