IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card/ Candidate Task Card.

[The topic for your talk will be written on a card which the examiner will hand over to you. Read it carefully and then make some brief notes.]

Describe a radio program that you find interesting.

You should say:

• what it is about
• which radio station broadcasts it
• how often you listen to it

and explain why you find it interesting.

[Instruction: You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]

Model Answer 1: 

Thank you so much for allowing me to talk about a radio programme that I used to listen to regularly during my university days, which I found particularly interesting. I am no longer a regular radio programme listener, but back in my university days, I used to listen to different radio programmes for at least two hours a day.

The programme that I am talking about is called "Love is Not Lost," and it used to air every Tuesday at 10:30 PM. It was a very special radio programme that focused on real-life stories of couples from all over the country. What made it unique was that it brought together couples who had faced significant challenges and struggles in their relationships but had managed to overcome them and were still deeply in love. The show often featured people who had been through hardships like long-distance relationships, financial difficulties, or family opposition. Despite all the obstacles, these couples would share their love stories, their struggles, and the bond that kept them together. It was truly heartwarming to hear how these couples had fought for each other and their love.

The programme was broadcast on a popular radio station, Radio One, which was known for its variety of content, including music, interviews, and talk shows. But "Love is Not Lost" stood out for me because it was more than just entertainment, it was a celebration of love and resilience. It had a very personal and emotional touch that resonated with listeners, including myself.

It became a part of my routine, and I would often sit in my room with a cup of tea, waiting for the programme to start. It was a great way to unwind and feel inspired, especially during stressful times in university. Now, I don’t listen to the radio as often as I used to, except maybe once in a while when I feel like tuning in. But "Love is Not Lost" remains one of those programmes that I’ll always remember fondly.

I used to love listening to radio broadcasts when I was still in high school. In fact, my little radio had remained a source of entertainment and news to me for a long period of time. But, as I grew a little older and became a little busier with life, the habit of sticking my ears with a radio just faded away.

But still, whenever I get an opportunity, I listen to one of my favourite radio programs, which is aired in “Bengali” language from “Radio Bangladesh” 106.5 FM. It is a weekly program on agricultural activities in the south-western part of Bangladesh.

The program is aired every week on Sundays, and I try to listen to it every week. I find the program really interesting as it broadcasts success stories of farmers from some unknown and isolated parts of Bangladesh where opportunities are just too limited. Especially interesting are the program episodes where it broadcasts the success stories of women in prawn farming which helps our country to grow and export very high-quality prawns to other countries. In fact, I just love the way the radio commentator takes interviews of those honest and hard-working farmers who seem to be happy by getting an opportunity to just talk on the radio for a minute.

Besides, I take a great interest in listening to this radio program because my family owns mango gardens, and the program does talk about mango farming from time to time. On top of that, the particular program also interests me because it discusses in great detail the prospect of Bangladesh becoming one of the most successful countries in the world in agricultural production despite the fact that its agricultural land mass is declining at an alarming rate. Finally, I just love listening to this agricultural program because it takes me close to the life and domain which are free from the “hullabaloo” of city life.
