IELTS Preparation and Model Answers
In part 2 of the IELTS speaking test, you will be given a task card on a particular topic (also known as candidate task card or cue card). This topic also includes 4 questions or key points that you should talk about.
The examiner will give you a pencil and paper to make notes and he/she will allow you a minute for the preparation. You then need to talk for one to two minutes. This Candidate Task Card part of the Speaking test lasts for 3-4 minutes.
Describe a time when you had a long discussion about a news story.
You should say:
– what the news story was about
– who you discussed this news story with
– what people’s opinions were
and explain why you had such a long discussion about this news story.
Describe a piece of work you did for your job or your studies that you felt very satisfied with.
You should say:
– what this piece of work was
– why you did this piece of work
– who or what helped you to do this work
and explain why you felt so satisfied with this piece of work.
Describe a time when you changed a plan you had made.
You should say:
– what your original plan was
– why you changed it
– what new plan you made
and explain how you felt about changing your plan.
Describe a play or a film you have seen that you would like to see again with friends.
You should say:
– what play or film you’d like to go to see again
– who you would go with
– what other people have said about this play or film
and explain why you would like to see this play or film again with friends.
Describe something adventurous you would like to do in the future.
You should say:
– what it is
– when you plan to do it
– what preparation it may require
and explain why you want to do this in the future.
Describe a rule that is important in your school or at work.
– what the rule is about
– how this rule helps
– how you feel about this rule
and explain why this is such an important rule for your school or your workplace.
Describe a place you visited that has beautiful views.
– where this place is
– when and why you visited it
– what views you can see from this place
and explain why you think these views are so beautiful.
Describe a car journey you made that took longer than expected.
– where you were going
– who you were with
– how you felt during the journey
and explain why this car journey took longer than expected.
Describe your best friend.
– who is he /she
– how you met him /her
– what you do together
and explain why this person is your best friend.
Describe a person from your country who has won a prize, award or medal.
– who this person is
– which prize, award or medal they received
– what they did to win this
and explain whether you think it was right that this person received this prize, award or medal.
