IELTS Academic Writing Task 1/ Graph Writing – Table:
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The tables below provide information about the consumption and production of potatoes in five parts of the world in 2006.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

Model Answer 1:
The table data provides information on potato consumption and production in different parts of the world in 2006. Overall, average potato intake in Europe was the highest, while Asia and Europe were the major potato producers in 2006.
As the data suggests, an average European ate slightly over 96 kilograms of potatoes in 2006, which was higher than the potato consumption in other parts of the world. With roughly 58 kg of potato consumption per person in 2006, North America stood in second position. Asia, despite its highest potato accumulation, accounted for roughly 26 kg per person potato intake. South and Central American citizens ate more than 23 kg per person, while the least potato consumption could be observed in Africa, just over 14 kg per person.
Asian countries produced over 131 million tonnes of potatoes in 2006, which was significantly higher than the potato growth in Africa and the Americas. Europe’s potato harvesting was the second largest, approximately 5 million tonnes less than Asia. It is worth noticing that Asia and Europe were the principal potato growers in 2006.
Model Answer 2:
The table data illustrates per-person potato consumption (in kilograms) and production (in million tonnes) in five regions of the world, namely: South & Central America, Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia, in the year 2006.
Overall, Europe recorded by far the highest per-capita potato intake, while Asia and Europe were the dominant producers of this crop. There is a clear contrast between consumption and production patterns: regions that produced a lot did not always consume the most.
In terms of consumption, Europeans averaged 96 kg of potatoes per person, which was significantly higher than North America’s 58 kg, the second-highest. By contrast, Asia and South & Central America had moderate consumption levels of approximately 26 kg and 24 kg of potatoes per person, respectively, and Africa consumed the least at just 14 kg.
As for production, Asia led globally with over 131 million tonnes of potatoes, marginally outstripping Europe’s output of 126 million tonnes. The remaining regions lagged far behind: North America produced 24.7 million tonnes, while Africa and South & Central America produced 16.4 million tonnes and 15.6 million tonnes, respectively.
Sample Answer 3:
The table data illustrates per-person potato consumption and total production of this crop in five different regions in the world – South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia, in 2016. According to the information provided, Europeans ate more potatoes on average than the citizens of other regions, and Asia harvested the largest quantity of potatoes in 2016.
In detail, Europeans were the chief consumers of potatoes in 2006, as each European ate 96.1 kilograms of potatoes. Then, North America and Asia followed the second and the third highest consumer list of this crop, 57.9 and 25.8 kg per person intake, respectively. It is interesting to note that an average European consumed almost the same quantity of potatoes as a North American, and almost four times higher than that of an Asian citizen. The consumption in Africa was the least, nearly 14 kg per person, while it was 23.6 kg in South and Central America.
Furthermore, Asia produced the highest quantity of potatoes, 131.2 million tonnes, despite their lower consumption rate. Europe grew over 126 million tonnes of potatoes, and these two regions were the main potato producers in 2006.

The illustration portrays a comparative analysis between the production and consumption of potatoes in five different regions of the world in 2006.
At the onset, it is apparent from the provided information that the highest amount of potatoes were produced in Asia while Europe’s potato consumption was considerably higher than that of other continents in the given year.
In detail, Asia yielded over 130 million potatoes, the highest, whilst, Europe stood at the second position with 126.3 million productions in 2006. However, in terms of consumption, Europe took the top position and the average amount consumed by a European was almost 70 Kg higher than that of an Asian. North America, meanwhile, took the third position in both terms of consumption and production as they produced around a quarter million potatoes and consumed over 55 Kg of potato on average. South and Central America and Africa, on the other hand, produced roughly 15 and 16 million potatoes respectively. Finally, an African, on average, ate as much as 14.1 Kg of potatoes in the year, and the amount was exactly 23.6 Kg for South and Central American citizens.
