Introduction:
Thank you a lot for allowing me to share my experience of visiting a historical place where I have been, and which left a lasting impression on me, both culturally and emotionally.
What place/site it is:
The place I want to describe is the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. It’s one of the most well-preserved ancient palace complexes in the world and was home to Chinese emperors for almost five centuries. I visited it during a trip to Beijing a couple of years ago, and it instantly became one of the most memorable experiences of my travels.
What people can see there:
Visitors can explore thousands of rooms, beautifully constructed gates, and massive courtyards that reflect ancient Chinese architecture. The roofs are decorated with golden tiles, the walls are painted in red and gold, and the carvings are incredibly detailed. Exhibition halls are displaying royal artefacts, ancient scrolls, robes, jade pieces, and ceremonial objects. People can also see the famous Hall of Supreme Harmony, which used to host major imperial ceremonies.
What you enjoyed there the most:
What I enjoyed most was the feeling of stepping back in time. As I walked through the gigantic courtyards and long corridors, I couldn’t help imagining what life must have been like for the emperors, queens, and servants who once lived there. I also enjoyed the peacefulness within the palace walls; despite being surrounded by tourists, the place had a strangely calming atmosphere. The scale of the architecture and the precision of the design were truly awe-inspiring.
And explain how you felt about being there:
To be honest, being there felt surreal. I had studied Chinese history in school, but seeing it with my own eyes made everything feel more real and meaningful. I felt humbled by the grandeur of the palace and amazed at how advanced the craftsmanship was, even hundreds of years ago. It also made me appreciate how important it is to preserve historical sites so that future generations can learn from and connect with the past.

Malacca City in Malaysia is quite a unique place, which I was lucky enough to visit a couple of years ago. And specifically, Saint Paul’s Hill in Malacca is a great historic place to be. This site dates back to the time when the Portuguese conquered the city in 1511, and I would like to talk about this mesmerising place for this topic.
Saint Paul’s Hill is in the heart of Malacca city and is a popular tourist destination. Malacca has so many historical and unique tourist attractions and sites, which I enjoyed to the fullest, but nothing beats Saint Paul’s Hill. St. Paul’s Church is at the top of the hill, and it was built by the Portuguese Catholics. These days, only the walls, frames and a glimpse of an astounding architectural style remain, but the historical prominence and its glory still boast its significance in every way possible.
When the Dutch invaded the city around 1641, the church was used as a burial place. Later, during the British colony, the Church was used as a powder magazine. A statue of Saint Francis Xavier still stands there, who used to preach in the church. I learned about so many historical facts while visiting this place from a tour guide that we hired.
St. Paul’s Hill also bears the presence of Stadthuys and the Christian church, which signifies the Dutch era in Malacca. The hill also has a replica of the ‘Melaka Sultanate Palace’, which gave me immense pleasure when I visited there. Finally, I also noticed an entrance to the Portuguese fortress, which I liked the most due to its extraordinary presence and architectural style.
The experience of walking at Saint Paul’s Hill on a fine afternoon and witnessing so many interesting historical sites was something I will remember for a long time. I enjoyed every bit of my time when I visited there, and I hope to visit it again if time permits me.

Being there made me feel both excited and humbled because the wall is a reminder of human determination and the strength required to build something so vast.
3. The Pyramids of Giza in Egypt:
The historical place I visited was the Pyramids of Giza, one of the most famous ancient wonders. People can see the massive pyramids, the Sphinx, and the nearby desert landscape. I enjoyed standing close to the huge limestone blocks and realising how precisely they were placed thousands of years ago. Being there made me feel a deep sense of mystery and respect because the engineering skills of ancient Egyptians are still impressive even today.
4. The Acropolis in Athens:
I went to the Acropolis in Athens, an ancient citadel that overlooks the entire city. Visitors can see the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena and the ancient marble pathways. I especially enjoyed exploring the Parthenon and admiring the detailed columns and carvings. I felt inspired and connected to ancient Greek history, as if I was walking through a place where some of the world’s greatest philosophers once lived and taught.
5. Machu Picchu in Peru:
The historical site I visited was Machu Picchu, a stunning Incan city high in the Andes Mountains. People can see terraced fields, ancient stone houses and dramatic mountain views. I enjoyed hiking through the ruins and observing how the Incas built everything with such precision. Being there made me feel peaceful yet amazed because the blend of nature and history created a magical atmosphere I had never experienced before.
6. The Taj Mahal in India:
I visited the Taj Mahal, a world-famous monument known for its beautiful white marble architecture. Visitors can see the main mausoleum, the symmetrical gardens and the reflecting pool that mirrors the whole structure. What I enjoyed most was watching the marble change colours in the morning sunlight. I felt emotional and grateful because standing in front of such a beautiful symbol of love made the visit feel truly special.
7. The Tower of London in England:
The historical site I visited was the Tower of London, a place filled with centuries of British history. People can see the Crown Jewels, medieval armour, ancient stone towers and even the famous ravens. I enjoyed learning about the stories of kings, queens and prisoners who once lived there. Being there made me feel fascinated and slightly uneasy because the place has a mixture of beauty and dark history that creates a powerful atmosphere.
