The charts and line graph illustrate the results of a survey conducted over three years in which Londoners expressed their views on the best and worst aspects of life in the city, as well as indicating whether they considered certain issues to be major problems.

Overall, Londoners consistently valued shopping opportunities, job prospects and the city’s multicultural population as the most attractive features of living there. In contrast, the cost of living, traffic congestion and crime were frequently cited as the most negative aspects. Among wider quality-of-life concerns, litter, air quality and noise were perceived as significant problems by substantial proportions of respondents.

In all three years, the range of shops ranked highest among positive factors for living in London, as around 42–45% of people each year identified shopping variety as the best thing about London, narrowly ahead of employment opportunities and the mixture of cultures, both of which were chosen by approximately 35–38% of respondents. Other aspects, such as nightlife, museums, art galleries, and transport facilities, consistently received lower positive ratings, typically lying between 20% and 25%.

When it came to the worst things about living in the city, the cost of housing was the most prominent concern, selected by about half of the participants each year. Traffic jams followed closely behind, while crime was also regarded negatively, though its importance decreased over the survey period.

The separate line graph highlights broader urban problems. A large majority of London residents saw litter as a major issue, with roughly 70–75% in agreement. Air quality was also widely regarded as problematic, with around 60–65% expressing concern, and noise pollution was seen as a significant problem by slightly over 50% of respondents over the three years.
