Model Answer 1:
My cousin, Milton, and I are of the same age. We don’t look the same, but there are some striking similarities between us, as far as our heights, measures of the waist, and physical structures are concerned. This cousin of mine once gave me a piece of clothing, and today, I would like to share that story with you.
Now, if you are wondering as to what could have possibly motivated me to share some of our physical attributes, Milton actually had bought this clothing item – a beautiful looking, navy blue colour, a full cotton half shirt that is – not for me, rather he bought it himself, initially. But, later on, he decided to give it to me, apparently because he didn’t like it as much as he had liked it during the time he first bought it.
Anyway, as he was offering the shirt to me, he told me about the reason for doing so, and he also asked me if I liked the shirt. I gladly told my cousin that I liked the shirt very much. In the end, the shirt was officially mine, and it fitted me just perfectly since, as I have already said earlier, both I and my cousin were pretty much identical as far as our size is concerned. By the way, I wanted to offer a price to my cousin for that shirt, but he just declined to take any money from me, and instead, he just told me smilingly that I could also give him a shirt sometimes if I ever didn’t like it after purchasing it.
How did I feel about it? Well, I felt really happy that I got the shirt, not because it looked very nice or I got it for free, but because of the fact that my cousin was actually kind and considerate enough to have thought about me in the first place. After all, he could have simply returned the shirt and got another one in exchange from the same store.
Model Answer 2:
Introduction:
I have always believed that clothing is not just about covering oneself, but it also represents a person's identity and sense of style. And clothing as a gift can be both interesting and risky. It is a great gift if the receiver likes it, and a bad gift if the person does not like it. For this topic, I would like to talk about a piece of clothing that was gifted to me by my sister. By the way, I liked it very much.
What type of clothing it was:
The item of clothing was a beautiful red dress. It was an A-line dress, and it had a simple yet elegant design. The dress has a fitted bodice and a flared skirt that forms an "A" shape, and it was knee-length and made with lightweight fabrics.
Who gave it to you:
My sister gave me this dress on my birthday. She knew that I had been looking for a perfect red dress to wear to my friend's wedding.
Why this person gave it to you:
My sister gave me this dress as a birthday gift because she knew that I was fond of dresses and had been searching for a perfect red dress for a while. She wanted to make my birthday special by giving me something that I would cherish.
And explain how you felt about it:
I felt extremely happy and grateful when my sister gave me this dress. It was not just about the dress, but it was also about the thoughtfulness behind the gift. The dress was perfect for the occasion, and it fit me perfectly. I was thrilled to wear it to my friend's wedding, and I received many compliments on how beautiful the dress was. Even today, whenever I see the dress in my closet, it reminds me of that special birthday and the love and care that my sister put into making it memorable.
Idea generation for this Candidate task card/ Cue card topic:
Receiving an item of clothing as a gift can be a thoughtful and personal gesture. Whether it’s something functional, fashionable, or sentimental, the clothing we receive often carries a special meaning. Here are ten ideas for describing an item of clothing that someone might have given to you:
1. Winter Coat:
One item of clothing that someone gave to me was a winter coat. It was a gift from my mother for my birthday last year. She gave it to me because she knew I needed a new, warm coat for the cold months ahead. I felt very grateful for the gift because it was both practical and thoughtful. The coat was stylish yet functional, and I wore it almost every day during the winter. It made me feel cared for, especially since it came from my mother, who always looks out for my well-being.
2. T-shirt:
A few months ago, my friend gave me a t-shirt with a funny quote on it. I was surprised when I received it because it was a completely unexpected gift. They gave it to me because we both share a love for quirky, humorous sayings. I felt delighted when I saw it because it reflected our friendship and sense of humour. I wear it often when I want to relax or just feel comfortable, and it always makes me smile.
3. Scarf:
I received a beautiful scarf from my aunt during the holiday season. She gave it to me because she knows I love scarves and always wear them in the winter. The scarf was made of soft wool, and it was in my favourite colour - deep blue. I felt very touched by the gift, especially because it was something so personal and thoughtful. It was also practical, keeping me warm while adding a stylish touch to my outfits.
4. Jacket:
Last year, my best friend gave me a leather jacket. They gave it to me as a gift for my graduation, and it was a complete surprise. I had always admired their own leather jacket, and they thought it would be the perfect gift. I was overjoyed when I received it because it felt so stylish and trendy. The jacket became one of my favourite pieces of clothing, and I wore it on various occasions, feeling confident and fashionable each time.
5. Sweater:
One of the most meaningful items of clothing I received was a hand-knitted sweater from my grandmother. She made it herself as a gift for Christmas last year. The sweater was a soft, cosy knit with beautiful patterns, and she gave it to me because she wanted me to have something warm and made with love. I felt incredibly special and loved when I received it, and I wear it whenever I need comfort and warmth, especially during colder days.
6. Dress:
At a family gathering, my cousin gave me a beautiful dress for my birthday. She chose it because she thought it would complement my style and fit me perfectly. I felt incredibly touched by her thoughtfulness, as she had spent time picking something I would love. The dress was elegant and made me feel confident when I wore it. It became my go-to outfit for special occasions, and every time I wear it, I remember how kind and thoughtful my cousin is.
7. Pajamas:
I received a cosy set of pajamas as a gift from my close friend last winter. They gave them to me because they knew I loved comfort and relaxing at home after a long day. The pajamas were soft, warm, and perfect for cold evenings. I felt relaxed and happy when I received them because they reflected my friend’s understanding of my personal preferences. I wear them regularly, and they always remind me of my friend’s generosity and care.
