IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card/ Candidate Task Card.
Describe your favourite TV channel.
You should say:
- what TV channel it is
- how often you watch it
- what types of programmes it broadcasts
and explain why this is your favourite TV channel.
Model Answer 1:
Watching TV is one of my most favourite forms of entertainment because of the convenience and the diversity in entertainment it provides. But, unfortunately, I don’t really have much time to watch TV because of my work. Still, I try to enjoy different kinds of programmes on it, especially, if they are aired on the “National Geographic” channel.
Anyway, since the National Geographic channel is one of the most popular TV channels in the world for the thinking minds, it doesn’t really need any introduction. Still, just for academic purpose, this TV channel is an American "pay television network" which provides non-fictional TV programmes like documentaries with factual contents, involving nature, science, culture, and history, plus some reality and pseudo-scientific entertainment programmes. Then, its primary sister network worldwide, including the United States, is Nat Geo Wild, which focuses on animal-related programming only.
In fact, the programmes on the National Geographic TV channel are so diversified, as well as educational, interesting, informative, entertaining and serious, that once a person watches its programmes, he or she becomes hooked to it. Of course, this TV channel is not without some controversy, but it is also true at the same time that no other channels let us see and explore our world in the way that the National Geographic channel does, whether we see how a tiger hunts in a forest or how Antarctica melts. Anyway, even though, it is my favourite channel, I don’t get to watch it more than twice a week or so.
The National Geographic TV channel is my favourite channel, mainly because of the quality and the contents it provides. Besides, all the programmes on this TV channel are so unique and educational that I can watch them with my entire family while enjoying some quality family time together. However, the best thing that I really like about this TV channel is that it is never afraid to bring the “truth” out in the light about any issues even though they may prove out to be controversial. So, again, the National Geography TV channel rocks.
Sample Answer 2:
I do not watch TV much as I am busy these days and can hardly manage time to sit in front of a TV set and browse for some interesting programme. But no doubt TV is a prominent electronic media for education and entertainment all around the world. So, I would like to thank you for the opportunity you have given me to talk about my favourite TV channel, which happens to be none other than the "Discovery Channel".
I watch TV mostly in my free time during the weekends, and among the channels, I watch, "Discovery Channel" is on the top of the list. Whenever I held the TV remote control in my hand, I look for either a news channel or the "Discovery Channel". This is the channel I watch more often than any other channel. I watch it for 5 to 7 hours per week. On my days off, if I am in front of the TV, I watch the excellent educational and recreational programmes that this channel broadcasts.
It broadcasts mainly documentaries and programmes focusing on popular science, technology and history. But recently they have started showing different other programs like reality shows and pseudo-technologies and entertainment shows. There are some unique programmes as well that they present to their audiences and these programmes include "Myth Busters", "Unsolved History", "Automobiles", and "Occupations".
This channel started broadcasting in 1985 and has become one of the most popular TV channels in the world because of its emphasis on high-quality and educational programmes, and I like it exactly for these reasons. I like this TV channel because of the programmes and documentaries they present. Most of the programmes are thoroughly delightful and offer useful information to the viewers. This TV channel is one of the best sources for me to learn different aspects of history, technology and other important fields of education and knowledge.
