IELTS Speaking Test # 109 [Band 8/9 level mock test]
Part 1 Topic: "Animals".
Part 2 Topic: "Describe a website you use a lot that helps you a lot in your work or studies".
Part 3 Topic: "The internet" & "Social media websites".
Part 1 - Introduction & Interview
[This part of the test begins with the examiner introducing himself or herself and checking the candidate’s identification. It then continues as an interview. In the interview, the examiner asks the candidate about his/her home, work or studies and other familiar topics.]
Topic: "Animals".
Q. Are there many animals or birds where you live? [Why/Why not?]
Answer: Yes, we do have many animals and birds where I live mainly because my country has great nature with many forests, trees and lakes where birds and animals can live peacefully. Besides, we take aggressive and effective measures to ensure that animals and birds are able to maintain their natural habitats.
Q. How often do you watch programmes or read articles about wild animals? [Why?]
Answer: Yes, I do watch such programmes, especially on the “Animal Planet” TV channel, and read articles about wild animals frequently. It doesn’t only allow me to appreciate the beauty and majesty of the unique nature around us, which I have never seen before, but also helps me to remain in a more relaxed and comfortable state of mind.
Q. Have you ever been to a zoo or a wildlife park? [Why/Why not?]
Answer: Yes, I have gone to visit a zoo or wildlife park several times mainly because it allowed me to remain close to Mother Nature. Besides, visiting a zoological garden or wildlife park allowed me to see new animals which I had no knowledge about before. Without being in a zoo or wildlife park, we can not understand many activities of our favourite animals and birds and that's why these places are so popular among people.
Q. Would you like to have a job working with animals? [Why/Why not?]
Answer: As much as I like to remain close to Mother Nature, I wouldn’t exactly like to have a job that involves working with animals mainly because it might put my health and life in danger, especially, when working with “large” and “ferocious” animals. Of course, I wouldn’t mind having a job that involves working with “birds” because they are adorable and virtually cause no harm to humans.
Alternative Answer: Yes, I think I’d really enjoy having a job that involves working with animals and birds. I’ve always felt a deep connection with nature, and being around animals is both calming and rewarding. A job like that would give me the chance to care for living creatures, protect wildlife, and maybe even contribute to conservation efforts. It’s not the most conventional career path, but it sounds meaningful and fulfilling - especially for someone who loves animals as much as I do.
Part 2 - Cue Card/ Candidate Task Card
[The topic for your talk will be written on a card which the examiner will hand over to you. Read it carefully and then make some brief notes.]
Describe a website you use that helps you a lot in your work or studies.
You should say:
- what the website is
- how often you use the website
- what information the website gives you
and explain how your work or studies would change if this website didn't exist.
[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]
[Examiner: All right? Remember you have one to two minutes for this, so don't worry if I stop you. I'll tell you when the time is up. Can you start speaking now, please?]

Part 3 - Detailed discussion:
Discussion topic: "The internet"
Q. Why do some people find the internet addictive?
Answer: Many people find the internet addictive because there are just too many interesting things going on the internet. On the internet, people can buy and sell things, learn new skills, browse social media websites, play games, watch videos and movies, listen to music, chat with friends, make new friends, read interesting news/articles, and the list goes on and on. Besides, the greatest thing about the internet is that people can actually do all these things together with others. Now, how many things are there in this world that allow people to do so many things at the same time at a minimum cost? Moreover, for some people, the internet is an exit way from their reality and that's why they are always online.
Q. What would the world be like without the internet?
Answer: That's an interesting question! Well, without the internet, our world would be very much like a “deaf, blind and dumb” person who couldn’t see and listen to anything, and the world would stand “still”. Without the internet, our communication would suffer very badly, collection of data and information would be very difficult, buying and selling things from the comfort of home would be virtually impossible, and we would need our video and audio cassettes back again to see movies and listen to music. Finally, we would also need to wait a few weeks (instead of just a few seconds) to send our special family pictures of our loved ones if we didn’t have internet, and the list goes on. I personally feel that, if we never had invented and used the internet, we would have been okay to go on. But if the internet technology is taken away from us now, our civilisation will find it surprisingly difficult to go on and prosper.
Alternative Answer: Honestly, the world would feel completely different without the internet. Daily life would be much slower, and we’d rely heavily on traditional forms of communication like phone calls or letters. Access to information would be limited, which would affect education, business, and even healthcare. People would probably interact more face-to-face, which could be a good thing, but it would also mean fewer global connections. Overall, while life might be simpler, it would definitely be less convenient and less connected.
Q. Do you think that the way people use the internet may change in the future?
Answer: Yes, I do think that the way people use the internet may change in the future as it would allow us to be more aware of the world around us and behaviour because of the use of “Artificial Intelligence”. Besides, with the help of the internet, information sharing would be so ingrained in daily lives that we won’t even “notice” it. Then, it is also possible that we would also be “encouraged” to wear “devices” which would help us “detect” the risk of any danger or diseases in advance. On the negative side, chances are that there won’t be any “privacy” in future, and the bad guys will probably have many new tools to make our lives “miserable”. Finally, we will mostly use our voice commands to do things online and have an Artificial Intelligence-based personal assistant to tell us the information we need to hear and learn.
Alternative Answer: Yes, I definitely think the way people use the internet will change in the future. With the rise of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and smart devices, online experiences will likely become more immersive and personalised. People might rely less on traditional websites and more on voice assistants or wearable tech to access information. Also, as digital privacy becomes a bigger concern, the way we interact online may become more cautious and regulated. So, while the internet will still be central to our lives, how we use it will continue to evolve with technology.
Discussion topic: "Social media websites"
Q. What are the ways that social media can be used for positive purposes?
Answer: Social media can be used in several ways for positive purposes. First, it can help us make friends and develop a better understanding of each other, in a world full of hatred and animosity, even though we live a world apart from each other. Besides, social media can facilitate fast, personalized and easy communication among friends and families, no matter where we live in the world. Moreover, social media helps spread the news of suffering and distress among people very fast since millions of people use social media every day so that we can take necessary steps to help the suffering people. Finally, businesses can promote their products on social media while employers can find suitable candidates for their companies from social media websites.
Q. Why do some individuals post highly negative comments about other people on social media?
Answer: Well, in my humble opinion, some people sometimes post highly negative comments about other people on social media primarily because they have low ‘self-esteem’, and they are afraid to do it in public in real life. Besides, social media is a virtual world, and anybody can pretend to be “anybody” there to express their ‘frustration’ and ‘anger’ easily. Besides, communication and conversations on social media are not exactly strictly “regulated” the way it is on the print media, radio and TV channels which makes it even easier for people to post negative comments.
Q. Do you think that companies' main form of advertising will be via social media in the future?
Answer: Yes, I do think that many companies would use social media as their main media form of advertising in the future primarily because it offers the opportunity to reach a huge number of prospective customers almost instantly. After all, social media like Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram are visited by billions of people every day. Besides, advertising on social media usually costs relatively less than advertising on TV and other print media. Finally, with the use of massive data processing and analytical power of “Artificial Intelligence”, incorporated in social media, companies can take their advertising techniques to a new level unlike anything else which we have seen so far.
