Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I took a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne on 16th March on Royal Dutch Airlines and lost my suitcase. I am writing to get an update regarding this and hoping you would help me locate the lost luggage.

My flight number was MH 1685 and the seat number was 12B. The plane departed the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 9.30 pm and after I arrived at Melbourne Airport, I noticed that my suitcase was lost. I could not recover it after searching for more than two hours. Although I have explained this to Mr Johnson, who was in charge of the luggage claim office and promised to give me a call within the next 24 hours, I am yet to receive an update. My luggage claim number is 00269 and I am attaching a copy of it.

The suitcase that I lost is a dark brown leather suitcase with a black handle. It contains some clothes, souvenirs for friends, a couple of magazines, a novel and a business proposal which I need for a presentation I am going to conduct on 30th March.

I would really appreciate it if you could look into the matter and update me on the whereabouts of the suitcase. I really need this urgently and can pick it up from your office once you confirm its possession.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply soon.

Yours Faithfully,

Andrew Harris

Model Answer 2:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I was one of the passengers who took the flight from Narita, Tokyo to Heathrow, London on 7th September. Unfortunately, my suitcase was lost and I could not find it after I arrived at Heathrow Airport. Although I searched it for an hour and afterwards lodged a written complaint to the luggage claim department, I have not been contacted yet by anyone regarding the whereabouts of the luggage.

My suitcase is Grey Samsonite and approximately 10x95 cm in diameter. It has 3 stickers on one side and a heart-shaped sticker on the other side. The front of the luggage has a small scratch near the main zipper. My initials "DF" are also written on the front. It contains some clothing items, a few books and a copy of my university thesis, which I urgently require.

I would really appreciate it if you could urgently locate my suitcase and update me regarding this. My luggage claim number was 00026 and I can be contacted on my mobile phone, which is +2154875424, anytime.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Daniel Fillip

So I would highly appreciate it if you could give me a prompt reply at your earliest convenience. My flight number was NF 1452, and my Luggage Claim Number is 02547.

Yours faithfully,

Paul Burrell

Model Answer 4:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a frequent flyer of your airline - The Continental, and recently took a flight from New York to London in which I forgot my suitcase. I am writing to inquire about the suitcase and hoping you would arrange to find it and then allow me to pick it up from your office.

I took the flight on 15th January and the flight number was AB220. While off-boarding at the London City Airport, I forgot to collect it from the overhead bin over my sear. I realised the mistake after I got out of the airport. So, I raised a request with your staff to recover the suitcase. After all the formalities and paperwork, an officer informed me that someone would contact me within 24 hours. Five days have already elapsed since then and I have not heard any news of my suitcase.

For your kind information, it is a grey leather suitcase made by TravelPro and has a logo on the front that resembles a white swan. The bag also bears my name tag on it. It is a medium-sized suitcase that contains a few clothing items, a notebook, a travel charger and some important documents.

I am hoping you would investigate the location of the suitcase and keep it in your possession temporarily. I would be ready to collect it from your office once I hear from you regarding this.

Thank you for giving the matter your attention and I hope to hear your reply soon.

Yours sincerely,

Ramanuj Roy

Model Answer 5:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to inquire about my lost suitcase. I took a flight by the Saudia Airline from Singapore to London last week and the flight number was SK2547. Unfortunately, when I reached the London City Airport, I could not find my suitcase anywhere. I am hoping you would discover the suitcase and inform me once found.

The suitcase is black, medium in size and made of pure leather. A small scratch is visible on the left side and it has three zippers. The handle is brown and made of metal. It contains some important documents, a fountain pen, a diary, and some clothing items. The business documents inside the suitcase are indispensable for me.

Although I have registered the lost item ten days ago, I am yet to hear any update from the airline. I am disappointed with the customer service and hope that you would help me locate the suitcase urgently. Please update me about the whereabouts of the suitcase and oblige thereby.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Ayub Ali

Dear Sir/Madam,I am writing this letter to inquire about a lost suitcase which I left during my flight from Venice to London last week. I lost my suitcase on 13th March and I am sure I forgot it on the plane. The flight I took was N-1245 and the plane left the Venice Airport at 22.30. The item is very important to me because it is a gift from my late grandfather. It is a dark brown suitcase with double-locks and it contains some souvenirs and my laptop that I use at work. The files the laptop stores are extremely important to me. The suitcase is from Samsonite brand. I am sure you are cordially working to return my lost suitcase. I believe I left it under the passenger seat E-3, where I was on the plane. Once you find it, I prefer you ship the suitcase to my address. I will bear the courier charge. I herein enclose my residence address. I look forward to hearing from you.Yours faithfully,Lore nzo

Dear Sir/Madam,I am writing to inquire about my lost suitcase which was reported missing last week, 2nd January to be exact, during my flight from Toronto to New York by the Emirates on flight number AB45T. My flight departed at 8.15 am and I came to the New York Airport at around 6.30 am. When I reached the boarding area at Toronto airport, I had delivered two medium size bags and one suitcase and the person-in-charge gave me three tokens - each for every baggage. When the flight reached the destination, I searched for my suitcase and bags in the luggage area. I was shocked to discover that my suitcase was missing though my bags were all there! I immediately notified the airplane authority and lodged a lost baggage file and the authority assured me that I will get my suitcase as soon as it is found. The suitcase is blue in colour and weight nearly 6 kilograms. It has my name inscribed and should weight around 11 kg with its belongings. I have some very important documents, presents for my wife and approximately $700 cash in it.Frustratingly, I have not received any status update of my lost suitcase. I will be grateful to you if you double check in the bag’s location and update me about the suitcase.I am looking forward to receiving your reply promptly.Yours faithfully,Moha med Mosad.

Dear Sir,I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction with the services I received from Air Asia. It makes me galling, as I am yet to get an update about my lost suitcase during my trip to Cochin from Delhi last week.I checked-in my suitcase at the counter number 25. It was red in colour, medium sized and had a tag of "VIP" on the top. It weighed 25 kg. After waiting for a long time at the baggage counter I enquired with the concerned authorities. The airport staff expressed sympathy over the issue and were checking with the luggage-handling department. As the luggage had my winter clothes only, it gave me a huge relief. But to my dismay, The authorities couldn't trace the luggage in the next couple of hours and I had to leave the airport with a huge exasperation. Over the week, there was no update from the airline, except an assurance that the luggage is being traced. I would like to know the next course of actions to trace the item. I look forward to hearing from you soon.Yours faithfully,Saij u S George.

IELTS Letter Writing: You travelled by plane last week and your suitcase was lost. You have still heard nothing from the airline company.Write to the airline and explain what happened. Describe your suitcase and tell them what was in it. Find out what they are going to do about it.Answer:Dear Sir/Madam,I am writing to you because I have not heard from you after my suitcase got accidentally lost in one of your flights last week. The flight flew to Dublin from Rome last Thursday 21st June and the flight number reported on my boarding pass is E1-F10. Getting back to the lost suitcase, the suitcase is quite big, approximately 21 Kg. It is black in colour with a red handle. The suitcase mostly contains my clothes, but more importantly, it had a bottle of Italian wine. I also put my laptop and a Samsung mobile charger in it. The laptop contains many important official data and it would be a disaster if I cannot get it back. Therefore, if your staff finds the suitcase it must be treated with the maximum privacy as per your policy. I would be grateful if you could keep me updated weekly regarding the whereabouts of the lost suitcase.Thank you for your attention and cooperation. Yours faithfully,Xyz.
