Sample Answer 1: [Viewpoint: Owning a house has far more advantages.]
Choosing a place to live in, and whether to rent or own it is a major decision. Many people prefer to own a house rather than to live in a rented apartment while others choose to do exactly the opposite. Both have their own benefits and demerits. However, I believe that owning a house has far more advantages than renting an apartment.
To commence with, people often rent a house because purchasing a property requires a huge sum of money and the skyrocketing property prices in big cities make it impossible for many to own a house. These people naturally rent an apartment. There are certain advantages to living in a rented apartment. First of all, the person does not have to pay a large amount of money or pay housing taxes and bear the costs of maintenance. Moreover, such people can change their living places based on the location of their workplace and children’s school. The renovation of the apartment is the landlord’s responsibility, and the tenants do not need to worry about it.
On the contrary, owning a house gives a sense of personal achievement that tenants cannot enjoy. A house is a permanent asset, and over time, its price increases giving the owner a substantial return on the investment. The landlord can rent out the house to others and this can be a steady source of earnings for him or her. Furthermore, being the owner of a house means there is no one over the shoulder to watch what someone is doing and no sudden notice of evacuation. For instance, we had to vacate our apartment all of a sudden at least thrice until we purchased our own house a decade earlier. This is some sort of freedom that only houseowners enjoy.
To conclude, renting a flat has some benefits but the overall freedom and monetary compensations house owners enjoy are far more significant, and this is why every tenant dreams of owning a house someday.
Model Answer 2: [Viewpoint: Renting a house has more advantages.]
The decision to rent or buy a house is a major consideration for many individuals and families. While some prefer the flexibility of renting, others see the long-term financial benefits of buying a home. In this essay, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of renting a house over owning one. Personally, however, I believe that renting a house is a far better choice, especially in cities.
One advantage of renting a house is the flexibility it provides. Renters can easily move from one place to another without worrying about selling their property. Additionally, renting can be more affordable than buying, as tenants do not have to worry about the large upfront costs associated with purchasing a home, such as a down payment and closing costs. Besides, homeowners are responsible for all the maintenance and repairs on the property, which can be costly and time-consuming while renters do not have to worry about it at all.
However, there are also several disadvantages to renting a property. Tenants do not build equity in the property they are living in, and the rent can often increase each year, making it harder to budget and plan for the future. They also do not have the same level of control over the property as homeowners, as they must follow the rules set by the landlord. Additionally, owning a home provides a sense of stability and security that renting cannot offer.
In conclusion, renting and buying a house have their advantages and disadvantages. However, renting a property involves less upfront and maintenance costs, and the freedom to move to another location when required. This is why I prefer renting a property to buying one.
