Model Answer:

In recent years, there has been a growing concern about the environment and the impact that human activities are having on it. While some argue that the main environmental problem of our time is the extinction of some species of plants and animals, I believe that there are more pressing environmental problems that require our immediate attention.

Firstly, climate change is one of the most urgent environmental issues of our time. The rising global temperatures and changes in weather patterns caused by greenhouse gas emissions are having devastating effects on the planet, including the melting of ice caps, the acidification of oceans, and the increase in natural disasters. This problem affects not only the natural environment but also the human population, with the potential to cause widespread economic and social disruption.

Secondly, the issue of pollution is also a significant problem that needs to be addressed. The release of pollutants into the air, water, and soil has harmful effects on human health and the environment. This includes air pollution from factories and vehicles, water pollution from industrial and agricultural activities, and soil contamination from improper disposal of hazardous waste. The impact of pollution on our health and the environment is a serious concern that cannot be ignored.

Finally, the overuse and exploitation of natural resources is another pressing environmental issue. The demand for resources such as water, food, and energy is increasing, and the way we currently consume these resources is unsustainable. The depletion of natural resources has consequences for biodiversity, human health, and the environment as a whole.

In conclusion, while the loss of particular species of plants and animals is a significant concern, it is not the main environmental problem of modern times. Climate change, pollution, and overuse of natural resources are much more pressing issues that require immediate action.
