Access to the internet and computer technology has become increasingly important in today's digital age. However, in many developing countries, the lack of access to these resources is a significant barrier for the poor, limiting their access to essential services and opportunities. The government can take initiatives to bridge the digital divide.
One of the primary reasons why poor people in developing countries lack access to the internet and computer technology is the inadequate infrastructure and high costs associated with these services. In many rural and remote areas, the lack of reliable internet connectivity and limited availability of computers hinder access to information and services. For example, in some regions, there may be no internet service providers or telecommunication networks, making it practically impossible for people to connect online. Additionally, even if the infrastructure is in place, the high costs of purchasing computers and paying for internet services may be unaffordable for low-income individuals and families.
Another factor contributing to the lack of access to the Internet and computer technology is the lack of digital literacy and education among the poor. Without proper training and understanding of technology, individuals may be reluctant to adopt digital tools or may not know how to navigate the online world effectively. For instance, many impoverished communities may have limited access to education and training programs that teach digital skills. As a result, people may not be aware of the potential benefits of using the internet and computers to access services.

Building more telecommunication towers and laying down fibre optic cables can improve internet connectivity. Secondly, the government can introduce policies and initiatives to reduce the cost of internet services and computer hardware. In conclusion, the government can take substantial steps to ensure that all citizens have equal access to the opportunities and services that the digital world offers. Bridging the digital divide is essential for promoting inclusivity and improving the quality of life for all citizens.
