Sample Answer 1: [Agreement]

In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate over whether developing countries like Bangladesh should focus on industrial development rather than agriculture to achieve better development. In my opinion, developing countries should concentrate more on industrial development for several reasons.

Firstly, industrialization can lead to an increase in employment opportunities for the population. Industries require a large number of workers to operate, and as a result, the growth of industries can create jobs for millions of people. For instance, countries like China and India have seen rapid economic growth due to their emphasis on industrialization, leading to a significant reduction in poverty rates.

Secondly, industrialization can boost a country's export earnings, leading to an increase in foreign exchange reserves. This can result in the strengthening of the national economy and enable the government to invest in infrastructure, education, and health care, thereby improving the standard of living for citizens. For example, South Korea's export-led industrialization strategy transformed it from a poor to a developed one in just a few decades.

Finally, industrialization can lead to technological advancements, which can have long-term benefits for the country. It can result in the growth of research and development, leading to innovation and the development of new technologies. For example, countries like Japan and Germany have advanced industrial sectors, which are driven by technology and innovation.

All things considered, while agriculture is undoubtedly crucial for the economic development of developing countries, industrialization can bring significant benefits such as job creation, increased export earnings, and technological advancements. Therefore, it is imperative for developing countries like Bangladesh to concentrate more on industrial development for better development.

Sample Answer 2: [Agreement]

Developing countries have great potential to accelerate their progress, and they want to achieve it faster, even if it means that they need to shift their economic focus. Though it is not accepted by all that a country can develop if it focuses on expanding industries rather than agriculture, I personally believe that a developing country like Bangladesh should have a well-conceived industrialisation strategy like Japan, China or Hong Kong to become a developed country.

Agriculture, undeniably, is an important sector for a country like Bangladesh where more than 70% of people rely on it. However,  agriculture alone cannot enlist a country as an advanced nation in this modern era. The industrial revolution has taught us that manual labour and agricultural products cannot singly improve the economic condition of a nation. And a country must have an export-oriented industry or great industrial hub to progress quickly. For instance, a poor country has to export several hundred tonnes of grains to import only a few numbers of modern machinery. This disparity will keep on enhancing if the nation cannot become industrially sufficient. Asian economy has already shifted from farming and fishing to industrialisation and no developing country can further progress without following the same pathway, as the research suggests.

While agricultural development should not be ignored, especially in countries like Bangladesh, industrialisation should get more priority. Diversifying agricultural products and exports is a great power for an agricultural-based country, but this takes a long way to reach the top, and with the revolution and rapid expansion of the industrial world, this has become quite challenging.

To conclude, an agriculture-dependent country like Bangladesh should try to diversify its agricultural sector to become self-sufficient in its food supply but must have a long-term industrial strategy to progress and become a developed nation.

Model Answer 3: [Disagreement]

While industrial development has certainly played a significant role in the development of many countries, I disagree with the notion that developing countries like Bangladesh should prioritize industrial development over agriculture. In fact, I believe that agriculture is the backbone of the economy in many developing countries, and it is essential for the sustainable development of these nations.

Firstly, agriculture is often the primary source of income for many people in developing countries, especially those in rural areas. By investing in agriculture, these countries can not only provide jobs and income for their citizens but also contribute to food security and self-sufficiency. This is particularly important in a country like Bangladesh, where agriculture is the largest sector of the economy and employs over 40% of the labour force.

Secondly, agricultural development can have a significant impact on poverty reduction in developing countries. By increasing agricultural productivity and providing support for small-scale farmers, these countries can improve the living standards of their citizens and create a more equitable society.

Furthermore, agriculture can also provide a foundation for industrial development in developing countries. For example, by investing in value-added processing and manufacturing of agricultural products, these countries can create new industries and increase exports, contributing to overall economic growth.

In closing, while industrial development certainly has its place in the development of many countries, it is crucial for developing countries to prioritize agriculture as a means of achieving sustainable development. By investing in agriculture, these countries can provide jobs and income for their citizens, reduce poverty, and lay the foundation for future economic growth.
