Model Answer 1:

It is a widely debated topic whether having more money but less free time is preferable to earning less money but having more free time. In this essay, I will argue against this notion, contending that having more free time is ultimately more valuable, even if it means having a lower income.

Firstly, it is essential to consider the importance of work-life balance in today's fast-paced world. People who prioritise making more money often find themselves trapped in demanding jobs that consume their time and energy, leaving little room for personal growth, relationships, or leisure activities. This imbalance can lead to stress, burnout, and a decreased quality of life. In contrast, individuals who have more free time can pursue their interests, spend quality moments with loved ones, and maintain a healthier work-life balance.

Furthermore, one must acknowledge the intangible benefits of having more free time. Time is a finite resource, and as the saying goes, "money can't buy time." Having the freedom to pursue hobbies, travel, or engage in personal development can lead to a more fulfilling and enriched life. In contrast, a sole focus on accumulating wealth can result in a narrow, materialistic existence that may not ultimately bring happiness or contentment. For instance, consider two individuals: one who works long hours in a high-paying job but rarely has time for family or personal interests, and another who earns a modest income but enjoys flexible working hours and ample free time. The latter individual may have a happier and more balanced life, even though their income is lower.

In conclusion, while financial stability is undeniably important, the pursuit of wealth at the expense of free time and life experiences may lead to a less satisfying and fulfilling life. Having more free time allows individuals to focus on personal growth, relationships, and life's simple pleasures, which are invaluable aspects of a well-rounded and meaningful life.

Sample Answer 2:

Whether it is better to have a huge sum of money and less free time or less money and more available time is a complex topic with valid arguments on both sides of the issue. Personally, I disagree with the statement that it is better to have more money and less free time. I believe that having more free time is more important than having more money.

One compelling reason why I disagree with this view is that money cannot buy happiness. There are many things that are more important to a person's well-being than money, such as good health, strong relationships, and meaningful experiences which in fact, could be achieved when people have a work-life balane and more avaialabe free time. For example, a study by Harvard University found that people who have strong social relationships are more likely to live longer and healthier lives than those who do not. Another study found that people who volunteer their time are happier and more satisfied with their lives than those who do not.

Another tantalising reason I disagree with this view is that having more free time allows people to pursue their passions and interests. This can lead to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. For example, a person who loves to travel may not be able to do so if they are working long hours. However, if they have more free time, they can save up for their dream vacation and spend time exploring new places.

In conclusion, I believe that having more free time is more important than having more money. Money cannot buy happiness or fulfillment, and it can actually lead to stress and anxiety if it is not managed wisely. Free time, on the other hand, allows people to pursue their passions, spend time with loved ones, and simply enjoy life.
