Model Answer 1:
In recent years, the ownership of pets, like dogs and cats, has been on the rise, with the growing number of individuals choosing to bring furry friends into their households. This essay will first discuss how emotional bonding and social media influence are the primary causes of this growing phenomenon, and then discuss how it proves to be advantageous to human health - both mental and physical.
The reasons behind this phenomenon are the emotional connection and social media influence. Pets have always been deemed as charming companions, but their significance has grown even more lately. Many people now consider their pets to be members of the family, finding emotional solace and unswerving loyalty in their furry companions. Likewise, the rise of social media sites has also contributed to the increase in pet ownership. Captivating stories and adorable videos flood our social media news feed, encouraging individuals to adopt a pet of their own. For instance, social media platforms like Facebook have even led to the emergence of pet influencers, which has in turn contributed to the popularity and appeal of pet ownership.
Having pets as friends offers some real advantages, such as stress reduction and health benefits. The social interaction between individuals and pets boosts the levels of the feel-good hormone oxytocin, the hormone associated with bonding mothers to babies. For example, a recent study reveals that an amazing 86 per cent of post-traumatic stress disorder patients accompanied by a serving dog report a significant decrease in symptoms, and 38 per cent are able to reduce their medications. Moreover, the oxytocin-boosting benefits of keeping pets also help hold owners’ blood pressure at bay. Keeping pets thus reaps many health benefits.
In conclusion, a growing number of people are keeping pets in their homes because of emotional support and social media influence. It has remarkable benefits including reducing anxiety and preventing blood pressure.
Model Answer 2:
The burgeoning trend of keeping pets as companions within households has become notably prevalent in recent times, and this surge in pet ownership can be attributed to various factors. This essay will deal with the reasons for the rising popularity of pets, and also discuss the benefits of keeping pets at home as a companion.
One primary reason for the increasing trend in pet ownership is the changing societal landscape, where pets are increasingly seen as integral family members rather than mere animals. As people navigate busier lifestyles and experience higher stress levels, the desire for companionship and emotional support has led to a growing preference for pets like dogs and cats. These animals offer unconditional love and emotional solace, fulfilling a vital role in providing companionship and alleviating loneliness, particularly for individuals living alone or those in nuclear families with limited human interaction.
There are several advantages associated with keeping pets as companions. Foremost, pets contribute significantly to emotional well-being. The bond between humans and their animal companions can mitigate stress, anxiety, and depression, thereby promoting mental health. Studies have shown that interaction with pets reduces cortisol levels, known as the stress hormone, while simultaneously releasing oxytocin, the hormone responsible for feelings of happiness and relaxation. Additionally, the presence of pets has been linked to improved cardiovascular health and lowered blood pressure in their owners, showcasing the physiological benefits of pet ownership. Moreover, pets, especially dogs, encourage physical activity and a healthier lifestyle. Regular walks or playtime with pets provide opportunities for exercise, which is conducive to weight management and an active lifestyle. This encourages owners to engage in outdoor activities, thereby improving overall fitness and well-being.
In conclusion, the rise in pet ownership can be attributed to the growing need for companionship and emotional support in modern society. The benefits of keeping pets as companions extend beyond emotional well-being, encompassing physical health advantages that promote a more active and fulfilling lifestyle.
